The 2005 documentary Earthlings examines humanity's subjugation of animals and the way in which we exploit them for use as food, clothing, pets, entertainment and scientific research. Narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, the film uses secret camera footage to expose the cruel treatment animals are subjected to by some of the largest industries in the world. The film offers a powerful insight and the bleak footage taken in slaughterhouses is particularly disturbing, so much so that everyone i watched this with dramatically reduced or stopped eating meat all together, as i'm sure has been the case for many others after viewing. Earthlings definitely inspires one to consider alternative means of eating, which will be the focus of our documentary, however we hope to create an informative film that explores the positive ways people acquire food rather than a hard hitting exposé.
